Gallery Kohfu-situated in the heart of downtown Kyoto, is a modern art gallery and studio owned and curated by Kyoto-based, Canadian mixed media artist, Peter MacIntosh. Opening in 2016, this unique establishment showcases an exquisite array of original artworks including captivating geisha photography, thought-provoking abstract paintings as well as collage creations with a specific focus on Japanese themes. Fine art prints are also available for collectors and visitors seeking a lasting connection to the gallery’s unique vision.
ギャラリー幸楓 は、京都市中心部に位置し、京都在住のカナダ人ミクストメディアアーティスト、ピーター・マッキントッシュが主宰・キュレーションを手がける現代美術ギャラリー兼スタジオです。 2016年のオープン以来、芸舞妓を題材とした印象的な写真作品をはじめ、思索的な抽象絵画、そして日本的な主題に焦点を当てたコラージュ作品など、独創性に富んだ多彩なオリジナル作品を紹介しています。 また、ギャラリーの世界観をより身近に感じていただけるよう、コレクターや来訪者の方々に向けたファインアートプリントもご用意しています。
About the Art
Rooted in more than three decades of living and working in Kyoto, Peter MacIntosh creates contemporary art whether it be with a camera, I-phone, brush, pen, keyboard, or voice—the artist seeks to translate lived experience into a mixed media experience inspired by a combination of Kyoto's traditional and modern culture, with a focus on the flower and willow world. His work draws on Japanese arts such as Sumi-e (ink painting), Shodo (calligraphy) , Ikebana (flower arrangement) Nihon Buyou (classical dance) Kouta (traditional ballads) and Haiku (short poems) filtering these influences through photography, videography, painting, writings and collage. These influences are evident in the implementation of negative space, composition, color, timing, and movement, forming a visual language that honors tradition while remaining deeply personal and relevant.

日本で暮らす中で出会った、移ろいゆく瞬間や感情、そして記憶から着想を得て、カメラ、筆、ペン、キーボード、声など、その時々のイメージや感覚に最もふさわしい媒体を用いながら、実体験を視覚的・感覚的なかたちへと昇華させています。芸妓の世界を主なテーマとし、作品はドキュメンタリーとファインアートのあいだを自在に行き来します。ミクストメディアの手法を通して重層的な物語を紡ぎ出し、花柳界の際立つ視覚的な優雅さだけでなく、その奥にある繊細で、しばしば見過ごされがちな美しさをも映し出します。水墨画、書道、華道、日本舞踊といった日本の伝統芸術を長年にわたり学び、経験してきたことは、余白、構図、色彩、間、そして動きの表現に色濃く反映されています。それらは、伝統を尊重しながらも、深く個人的な視覚言語を形づくっています。
